You definitely can’t judge a book by its cover; I only got seven of the twenty people right. I thought I was doing a decent job identifying the races of the people but I was mistaken. I tried to use common facial features to decide what races the people were, but it didn’t help much. I believe everyone is judged and put into categories that they do not fit into, but that is how society is today. It is bad that everyone just decides to label someone without knowing anything about them. We should try to avoid stereotyping and get to know someone before we give them any type of label.

Hooray! You got the point of the whole exercise! I wonder if it is even necessary for the government to categorize people by ethnicity. What good might that do?

Exactly! I didn’t even realize how often I label people too. I really thought that I could easily classify people by their common characteristics, and boy was I wrong! Being judged is part of society today and it’s becoming even more difficult to define someone by one race.
I also don’t see the point in categorizing people by ethnicity. Why does the government need to sort people anyway? Your ethnicity doesn’t define you as a person.

It certainly doesn’t define you. Your appearance should not define everything about you. And I know, I judge people too. It’s bad and I think people should start noticing more about how they are perceiving a person before they make a perception of them.

I see absolutely no point in the government categorizing people by ethnicity. I think it is very stupid for them to think it is a major deal about what someone’s race is. It is like they are only expecting certain things from certain races.

Ha, I used the same quote. I’m sure a lot of people at least thought about it. You really do have to get to know someone before just categorizing them. To think that’s how government used to categorize people was by appearance alone is ridiculous. it may have seen easy enough at the time, but all of those government officials need to sort the peope like we just did.

I like your belief that nobody deserves to be labeled and set aside into a group because they are different. If people all just treated each other equally then we wouldn’t have any groups and there wouldn’t be anyone sorting other people. There is no need to make anyone feel different or put them aside because of their looks.

Seriously, labeling is dumb. Sadly, almost every single person around us labels a person as soon as they walk by. I doubt this will ever change, but it would be great if it did.
